Our Team of Professionals
Judy Esau has worked in the financial planning industry for over 25 years. She has extensive experience advising clientele from a variety of backgrounds, with a focus on those in the university system. Judy’s experience covers areas including taxation, retirement planning, estate strategy, and asset management. She carries many accreditations, including the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) designations for which she completes 40+ hours of continuing education courses biannually. Judy also holds FINRA securities registrations for Series 6, 7, 24 and 63.
Ed has over 20 years of experience in the investment research and portfolio management industries. Before coming to the Legacy Foundation, Ed was involved in the development and management of quantitative equity strategies, specifically within Environmental, Social, and Governance, and Socially Responsible Investing mandates. Earlier in his career, Ed worked as a Portfolio Manager and Macro-Strategist in Boston, Massachusetts. He was responsible for macro research as well as technical analysis, and management of the Canoe Capital Appreciation Fund. Ed holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and completed his MBA in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Ed is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds a CFA accreditation, as well as a Certified Market Technician, CMT, and is currently a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society.
Jonathan Nuckols - Operations Manager
Jonathan is responsible for opening the financial accounts that have been agreed upon during the implementation phase; the daily processing of all financial transactions, and handles all administrative requests from clients regarding their investment accounts. Jonathan received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from The College of William & Mary, and has been a small business owner and teacher. He works with employer human resource departments and investment companies in order to ensure asset transitions are handled properly by all parties involved.
Catherine Echols - Client Services Director
Catherine is in charge of coordinating all client meetings, servicing client requests, and engaging with all social media outlets. She attended college at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies. Catherine works closely with Judy, engaging in client meetings and also follows up on administrative processing with the goal of becoming more involved with financial planning advice. Catherine acts as a liaison between our portfolio manager, Edward Miller, and operations manager, Jonathan Nuckols, regarding any inquiries you might have, and delegates tasks as needed.
Tong Kang - Analyst
Tong heads up our tax division. His prior experience at PwC will enable him to prepare tax returns for our clients and advise them on their tax planning strategies. Tong works closely with Ed on constructing portfolio and stock models. He also conducts research projects on various asset classes as well as as the macro economy. Tong writes our daily investment newsletter. He graduated from the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce with a B.S. In Commerce with double concentrations in Finance and Accounting. Tong is also a Level II candidate in the CFA Program.
